The Crown chakra is associated with going beyond the limits of your own ego. It is the way of transcending the ego and knowing that all of creation is interconnected at a fundamental level.
Crown Chakra is the card drawn today from The Psychic Tarot Oracle Deck by John Holland. It is the 7th card of the chakra set.
The number 7 resonates with the energies of; spirituality, inner awareness, mastery, wisdom, insight, success, mysticism, intuition and inner-knowing, inner-wisdom, psychic abilities, the esoteric, inner-selves, deep contemplation, introspection, eccentric, religion, thoughtfulness.
The Crown Chakra is the seventh chakra and it is at the top of the “chakra ladder” which starts from the root chakra that grounds us on the Earth and progresses upward to the Sahasrara which connects us with the universe and the Divine source of creation. The symbol for the Sahasrara is represented by 1,000 multi-coloured petals arranged in 20 layers, each of which has 50 petals. This symbol also features a golden pericarp with a circular and a downward pointing triangle.
There is no intellectual knowing at the level of the seventh chakra, but there is serenity, joy, and deep peace about life. The challenge of the Crown Chakra is to liberate the spirit while opening to the divine and at the same time stay firmly rooted deep in the ground. The true nature of the seventh Chakra is beyond human comprehension. No words can do it justice. When your crown chakra is open you experience divine union and cosmic love; as Kundalini energy rises up from the lower chakras, you enter into the realm of pure consciousness.
The Crown Chakra is primarily associated with the pituitary gland, and secondarily to the hypothalamus. The hypothalamus and pituitary gland work together to regulate the endocrine system. It is closely associated with the brain and the whole nervous system.
The Crown Chakra is associated with the following psychological and behavioural characteristics:
- Awareness of higher consciousness and sacred wisdom
- Connection with the limitless
- A realisation, liberation from limiting patterns
- Communion with higher states of consciousness
The most powerful way to heal the crown chakra is through meditation. This is because of the ties between the crown chakra and spirituality. Regular meditation practice of all different sorts is beneficial. For a meditation focused on Sahasrara, visualise white light pouring into the top of your head, filling your body and connecting you with the world around you. If you only have a few moments to meditate, try imagining a violet lotus flower over your crown for a simple chakra meditation.
“What you do is what the whole universe is doing at the place you call the here and now. You are something the whole universe is doing in the same way that the wave is something that the whole ocean is doing. The real you is not a puppet which life pushes around. The real deep-down you is the whole universe.” ~ Alan Watts
