Back to your Roots by Prabha

Back to your Roots by Prabha

Sometimes you have to go back to your roots
Thinking long and hard about mine…

What if there is nothing to go back to?
Three generations, only one within them to look to
How far back do you go to find the ancestors who walk with you?

There is a man I’m not sure about
He appeared just before my life turned upside down twice
A shadow on the wall or on a blind I seem to recognise him,
unsure of whether to fear him

His legacy was leading his short life with an iron fist; almost barbaric
There is no animosity in his presence,
but nothing else either

I close my eyes and trust myself to see
The strong sense of connection so loving, yet unseen to me
Is this me, my spirit guides or ancestors from centuries ago?

Poetics describes a whole range of engagements with life that are storied, reflective and filled with imagination and inspiration, as opposed to analysis in the strict sense. When science rules, the magic fades. When thinking ascends the throne, the soul may atrophy. Yet poetics is not irrational – it is a take which reaches into a different aspect of our humanity – one where we can celebrate that which moves us, not dwell on what limits us. Expect surprises. One or many may lead. None or a few may follow and then decide to take the lead. This is a fluidity to break the mould of rigidity. Join us on this journey. Let us hold hands boldly and join voices transformatively. Prabha will be leading us. Feel free to join us.
